Different Skin Care Needs Of Different Skin Types

The face of every woman is different in skin type. Normal, dry, oily and combination – these are basically the 4 types. What sets each other apart is the amount of sebum produced. And this can be influenced by your genes, diet, lifestyle, season, and certain drugs. Oftentimes too, it’s influenced by the skin care you apply.

Before knowing how to take care of each skin type, it’s important to know what yours is. The normal type has an even tone and no visible pores or blemishes. There are no problem areas such as dry and oily, thus it’s less susceptible to breakouts or pimples. The dry type produces minimal sebum, thus it feels tight or taut most of the time, especially after cleansing. It’s prone to looking dull, flaking and development of red patches and fine lines.

An oily skin type tends to produce excessive amounts of sebum. And that’s why such type looks shiny most of the time. The pores are visible, and it’s prone to the development of whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. A combination skin type has some areas that are oily, while the rest are dry. The T-zone is shiny and oily, while the cheeks and other areas tend to be dry. Caring for such type can be challenging.

Now it’s time to discuss how to properly take care of each skin type. If you got the normal type, lucky you, as it’s the least problematic of all. However, it still requires proper cleansing and moisturizing. Use a facial wash that’s mild and suited for normal skin. Don’t wash your face excessively, as it can also get all dried up. Apply a moisturizer as needed, as well as sunscreen when stepping out of the home.

A dry skin type requires some TLC on your part. That’s because it’s very prone to getting dry and irritated. Go for a facial cleanser formulated for dry skin type, with mild and all-natural ingredients. Avoid using bar soaps because they can make the dryness even worse. Never skip applying a moisturizer to seal in moisture, especially prior to applying make up.

The oily type needs to be washed 2 to 3 times every day, or more as necessary. However, refrain from washing it excessively as this may trigger the oil-producing glands to produce more sebum to counter the dryness. Use a facial wash formulated for dry skin. Use facial scrub once in a while to unclog the pores and make it less susceptible to formation of blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. You still have to moisturize it, but steer clear of oil-based ones.

If you got a combination type, you should devote more time to caring for it. The oily areas need a different set of caring than the dry areas. Use a cleanser for oily skin on the T-zone. Exfoliate regularly to keep the pores clog-free. Apply a moisturizer, and if possible go for something with a matte finish. This will keep your T-zone shine-free. To make the whole face look even and smooth, use a pore-minimizing facial mask regularly.

Know what your skin type is and apply the right skin care regimen suitable for it. No matter what type you have, remember to be gentle with it, especially in using cleansers and other beauty products.
